Wall Removal and Beam Design
Removing an interior wall can completely transform a home, especially in kitchens, living rooms, and open-concept renovations. Creating an open-concept layout is becoming a more highly sought after design consideration. However, some interior walls are load-bearing and support floor, ceiling, attic, or roof framing above.
Riley Residential Structural Engineering can review the existing framing to help determine whether a wall appears to be load-bearing and whether it can be safely removed or modified. If structural support is required, beam, header, post, and bearing recommendations can be provided.
A properly designed beam such as wood LVL or steel beam helps transfer loads safely through the structure and reduces the risk of future sagging, cracking, or improvised repairs. This service is commonly used for kitchen renovations, open floor plans, contractor-led remodels, and permit-related structural review.
